Busted out the city
Out here where it's pretty
Better skies
Badder guys
Rippin' on the weekend
Slippin' into something
Badder grooves
Bigger moods
High times in the desert, man
Get 'em when you can
Get 'em when you can
High times in your life, man
Get 'em when you can
Get 'em when you can
Siphon me a gallon
It's gonna get me back home again
You gotta smile
When you got style
We got the best riffs in town
Gotta spread that shit around
Make it ring
That's we bring
To these
High times in the desert, man
Get 'em when you can
Get 'em when you can
High times in your life, man
Get 'em when you can
Get 'em while you can
High times in your life, man
Get 'em when you can
Get 'em while you can

Lover of the Good Times
03:18
|
|||
I moved to the desert
Now I'm more enlightened
Wake up every morning in Joshua Tree
Make my cup
Drink it up
And hop in my Mercedes and cruise to town
Pull up to the Palms
Have a burger for pennies
Just one cocktail and I'm headed on out to the city
I'm a lover of the good times
Hope I'll make it out alive
I'm gonna lead an honest real good life in the country
He's a lover of the good times
Hope he'll make it out alive
Here I am at some party
Got my friends all around me
As I'm knockin' 'em dead I'm knockin 'em back
Long drive on a Sunday
Gram Parsons singin' to me
Green Green Grass of Home all the long way back
Sunset in the desert
Illuminatin' the red dirt
I should be feelin' high right now
Look at this lover of the good times
I know he'll make it out alive
He's gonna lead an honest real good life in the country
I'm a lover of the good times
I hope I'll make it out alive
I'm gonna reel it in and settle down
Yea, he'll settle down
He's a lover of the good times
I hope he'll make it out alive
Oh, reel it in
He's a lover of those good times
Gonna lead an honest good life
Oh, and settle down

Love is My Pain
04:19
|

Thriving is dying anyway
Ripping through life at what a pace
Mourning these things that didn't play
Out quite like you thought they would, you trace
Ancient striations on the face
Of long desert rocks, you're getting strange
Light harmonies bouncing off your face
The morning sun rocking through the trees
Love is my pain
Love is my pain
Love is my pain
Love is my pain
Feeling the drones of these times
[As they] wash o’er your body, dark and wise
You wish you had held it in your eyes
Let things lose their focus, melt in time
Inside the blue club and on the street
A hot desert smoke [I] long to keep
It passes my lungs into the deep
Far reaches of dying, living free
Love is my pain
Love is my pain
Love is my pain
Love is my pain
Love is my pain
Love is my pain
Love is my pain
You could feed the disguise / Hold court with the guys
But it’s only our eyes / You could make out this time [of night]
In the red city lights / On this dark summer night
We are closest to dying / We’re screaming, teeth shining
To the people just rising / The laughter’s like crying
Love is our pain
Love is our pain
Love is our pain
Love is our pain
Love is my pain
Love is my pain
Love is my pain
Love is my pain

Paradise
04:34
|

You're spent on me
I am too
Think it's time to let go
Let the good times go
Float like a lime
Some other little rhyme
Sittin' on the ice
Sippin' on the vice
Margaritaville
Gonna have my fill
Gonna be a pill
If I don't get my fill
Holdin' on loose
To some bad ideas
But it sure was a gas
At times in the past
Paradise
Paradise
I'm tired of my dreams
You must be too
But this isn't exactly
A new development
Para-paradise
Holdin' me too tight
You're so close to me tonight
How I adore you, paradise
Lettin' off a big load
Gonna fly into the doze
Grand-off send-off flight
Gonna scream into the night
Across the great big sky
Just some otherworldly guy
All alone in this old sky
No more thinkin' this up high
Para-die
Para-die
Para-die
Float like a lime
Some other little rhyme
Perched on the ice
I'm parched I need my vice
Margaritaville
Gonna have my fill
Gonna be a pill
If I don't get my fill
Gonna be a pill
If I don't get my fill
And I'm way up high
In this big blue sky
As I wave goodbye
I look over and there you are
Flyin' right next to me
Aw, you look so good
Hey, why don't you just stay here for a while
And I'll be here when you wake tomorrow
Maybe this is paradise

Stars
04:53
|
|||
Can I open up my heart
See my ribcage split apart
Would it look different than yours
Would my lungs fill just like yours
I'd like to peel back the world
And see what's behind
Stars in your eyes
Stars in your eyes
Have you been down there at winter
In the frosty glowing mist
Did you wish to be an otter
So that you could swim in this
And if you could swim in this
Wear these waters, take a sip
Gaze up at the snowy cliffs
Yea, that mist could be your kiss
Lookin' up from that abyss
Yea that mist
Could be your kiss
Stars in your eyes
Stars in your eyes
I don't care how it feels for you / The world is cruel
Because I am the one who's blue / But so am I
I don't know how it feels / It's easy
'cause I am the one / To miss the boat
Stars
Stars
It was quiet and warm
On the little town beach
And the people were older
All the kids were asleep
You're all so full of shit
I could really just cry
But I don't want your life
And I don't wanna die
I am not your jester
Though I know I make you laugh
It's so easy somehow
It's so tragic somehow
I thought I got rid of that clown
I thought I got rid of you
I thought I saw
Stars
Stars
Stars in your eyes
I saw stars in your eyes
I saw stars
Yea, I saw stars

Here in Leeds
05:13
|
|||
was a foggy weird day here in leeds
i slept for a good amount and sat there in the living room
drinkin’ coffee in the dim morning
feelin’ it all buzzin’ through me
it was humid but it was cool and i was alone
and for a second there there was no sound but the birds
i could hear the river faintly far away
down the road, across the street, past the other houses
then the neighbor opened up the window right next to my head
a noisy truck pulled up on the street, pulled up
the engine ran for a minute
i began to let these interruptions settle and tried again to access my sacred morning
thought i, my sacred morning thoughts…when i heard a yell and a tire screech
"you're right next to a no parking sign you idiot!"
a truck had swerved around the idling truck i’d forgot about
a truck had swerved around the idling truck i’d forgot about
so mad and human
the truck wasn’t idling anymore
must’ve been somewhere in the roods
i don't think he wanted a confrontation
i didn't catch a glimpse of either of em
and so things slowed down and i wandered a bit in my head
thought about goin’ to Texas to make a country album with my friends
it seemed like a real good idea
like it was a thing that i could do
a thing that would lift me out of this
something real and truthful in that particular way
but sometimes it feels like a young person's game
and i been feelin’ so old
but then again, i always have, mmm
i think about all this rain in the river
if it's bad to swim in it
in l.a. you couldn't go in the ocean for a few days
acid rain, maybe
up in Malibu
that place saved me
from drowning in all that i was doin’
i only liked to go if i woke up sober
the drive was spiritual for me
i spent those feelings quick but it was worth every penny of gas
i could die in those hills
out on kanan rd
and here i am, lookin’ at that square of trees in the window
all fucked up on coffee
but everything’s so beautiful and still
i think of Valentina
sleepin’ in the bed
her little feet stickin’ out of that mountain of blankets
at 11:00 i'll go upstairs
curl up beside her say "baby"
she might say "mmmm" or “i’m still sleeping" or "what time is it"
all of those are fair game
maybe nothing at all
can't see nothin' but her mouth and nose
and her wigglin’ toes
*scats*
the bi-bi-bike riders have this way
of talkin' about their private things
like they're in the car with the windows up
as they ride past the house
i can hear them clear as day
i wonder if they realize that
i hear more voices now
this time further down the road
it’s a little later as I write this
not sure which where it’s comin’ from but I don't feel like lookin’
they’re bouncin’ back and forth across the road
"helloooo" "helllloooo"
"whaaat"
"hello"
"i'll be right down!"
"heeelllooooooo" ooooooo
it was a foggy weird day here in leeds

Paul Bergmann New Haven, Connecticut
In his relentless oeuvre-building, Paul has amassed an especially articulate kind of existentialism: what it means to persist, and to create, in a world which dies in the near distance. In No Masters in Paradise, the form of the songwriter’s ballad, in the hands of an expert, is turned inward for comfort, resisting the base lure of worldly approval. ... more
